The AteneaThe Atenea moved to new premises in calle Compañia, in May 2000 and have regular exhibitions by many of Malaga's best known artists. The building, near the Plaza de la Constitucion, used to be the home of the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Malaga and is where Pablo Picasso had his first contact with the art world, as his father gave classes there.
Fundación PicassoFundación Picasso in Pablo Ruiz Picasso's birth place in Plaza de la Merced, 15. Visiting exhibitions as well as permanent ones are on show in this lovely old house. Open Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00.
The Architects CollegeThe Architects College in Palmeras de Limonar stage many important exhibitions in their gallery. Open weekdays between 12 noon and 14.00 and 19.00 and 21.00.

BENALMÁDENA

MIJAS PUEBLO
The Folk Museum near the main square Plaza Virgen de la Peña has an art gallery for exhibitions by local artists as well as a permanent exhibitions of paintings, photography, ceramics and tools used in the Mijas countryside years ago. Previously the original town hall, it is one of Mijas's most historic buildings and recent improvements have added two renovated oil mills, a special room dedicated to exhibitions of the Sierra de Mijas and a traditional wine cellar. On the first floor there are additional exhibition rooms dedicated to the countryside and the sea, with items commemorating the traditional way of life in the village. On the second floor visitors can see how traditional crafts such as carpentry have evolved through the years. Open from 09.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 19.00.
The Mijas town hall also has an art gallery, which has a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Opening hours are influenced by Town Hall working practice from 09.00 to 14.00.
The Tamisa gallery in Plaza de la Constitucion, Edificio Alcazaba has exhibitions by its resident artists on show Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00.
Las Lagunas Culture Centre which has one or two exhibitions each month throughout the year. Open weekdays from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00.

Local authorities run an art gallery in the Casa de la Cultura Blas Infante, in calle Manuel Garcia. Open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 13.00 and 17 00 to 20.00 and Saturday 17.00 to 20.00.
ALHAURÍN DE LA TORRE
The Municipal Art Gallery is in la Finca Municipal El Porton in Avenida Juan Carlos 1. Open Monday to Friday from 17.00 to 20.30.
FUENGIROLA
The Municipal Art Gallery in the Culture Centre art gallery in calle Juan Gomez has exhibitions by local and international artists. Open weekdays 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 22.00. Saturdays from 10.00 to 13.00. So does the art gallery on the lower floor of Los Boliches Town Hall in Avenida Jesus Santos Rein.

The Municipal Gallery in Plaza Jose Palomo, 35 (the old part of town) has a variety of artists exhibiting their work throughout the year. Open Monday to Friday from 11.30 to 13.30 and 17.30 to 20.30.
The Contemporary Engraving Museum in Hospital Bazan (near the Orange Square), has a permanent exhibition of 3,000 engravings along with visiting exhibitions on the ground floor of this historic building. There is also an engraving workshop. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.30 to 21.30. Closed Sundays.

The Fabien Fryns contemporary art gallery in the Hotel Marbella Club exhibits young and established international artists, including Stephan Szczesny, Robert Silvers, Robert Maplethorpe and Nan Goldin. Open Monday to Saturday from 11.00 to 14.00 and Monday to Friday from 17.30 to 21.00.
